Paradise Summer Care Group Update!
Now an update on what I am aware of is happening with Park Resident's and former Residents health. 1. Kenway Mead (formerly of 2509) who I think I reported earlier that he had been suffering a possible stroke which may have been the result of a medication he was taking for Fibromyalgia and/or a drug interaction with some other meds he was taking... It was confirmed a short time ago that he did have a stroke and is recuperating and waiting to see a specialist about the end of June. Yesterday I got an E-Mail from him and he said thanks for all the cards and especially the prayers (he honestly feels that the Prayers have help). He explained that he does have problems with speech, hand coordination, brain doesn't work as rapidly as it did (he jokes that that is probably old age but he isn't that...old) Ed Keys The last report few days ago ED had fallen and the only injury is he broke his nose... other than that I don't know where he is or how he is doing. If someone knows please let me know.... Bill Williams (1842) Dot and he had only been home in ME about 2 weeks when he fell from a ladder (about 6 to 8 feet) while cleaning the algae or moss off the siding. He was taken to Lincoln Hosp. near their home but was only there about 4 days as they had limited facilities to help him and they accidently O/D'd him on Pain meds. Dot said they almost lost him so they decided to have him taken about 33 miles farther to Bangor, ME where they have a lot more sophisticated equipment and Drs.... While he's been there they finally determined that his already fused spine (from the disease he has in his spine), was definitely broken at the 10th vertebrae. Since the fall on Memorial day Bill has been in constant extreme pain from the spine. They have been trying to control the pain using a very good pain clinic at the Hosp. but a couple days ago they brought in another Dr. who decided to try giving Bill an epidural to slow down or end the pain for even a short time... when they tried doing that they could not get the needle thru his spine so they tried something else to ease the pain and as of last night they didn't know if it worked as he was still sedated from the procedure.... They have been putting his fitted back brace on a couple times a day and when they do ...at least 2 therapist stand him up and see (first) if and how long he can stand which is about a minute because he is so weak. Dot has to still feed him only soft food and when I talked to her yesterday she had fed him and they were waiting for 2 nurses or therapist to roll him over. IF The brace doesn't work by next week they will probably attempt to surgically place a steel rod in his back (that is hard to believe since his spine is soooo fused). LaVerne Cook (14??) long time resident is moving to Desert Winds Assisted Living near 99th and Beardsley today. Please continue to send up your prayers for all of these friend from Paradise. Note from Don Crowley: Hi Sally! Would you pass this on to our friends at Paradise

Love,
Some news from Paradise RV Park via
Sally Smith.
Bob and I are finally heading out to Oregon
Sat. June 5th and I thought I'd send some
news on to all of you. Some of it is a
downer and some is on a happier note.
The happier note - the weather here during
May has been absolutely fantastic
The Memorial Day potluck was well attended - was held in the multi use room as the ballroom is stuffed with kitchen items. Amazing how many tables and people were fitted into the multi-use room. Lots of good food and conversation. The Park has planned many bus trips to different places in the valley and the cost is minimal. ![]()
Some of the places include River Boat Bingo, the Good Egg for breakfast,
a Father's Day Olympics, and so on. They also recently purchased a WII and that's been fun to play.
Ken Phillips ("biking leader", #2022) went
to visit the the Vivia's recently and took a
tumble out on the sidewalk and broke his
hip. He had a plate put in, spent a few
days in Boswell, and is recuperating now in
a care center here in Sun City. We visited
him yesterday and he looks great, is feeling
well, but still can't walk on his own.
He feels he'll be in the care center a few
more weeks.
Bill Williams (USO leader, #1842) also had a
fall, back in Maine. He was cleaning off
the side of their home on an extension
ladder and fell off, breaking his shoulder
and really injuring his back. I talked to
Dot this morning and she said he is in major
pain - he can't stand any movement. They
have him on many pain killers but he still
hurts. The x-rays don't show any breakage
in his back but the docs feel he has bone
fragments floating around in there and that
is the cause of all his pain. They had to
use a lifting device to get him from the bed
to a wheel chair for the trip to X-ray. Dot
feels he'll be in the hospital for several
more months. His home address in
Lincoln,
Maine is in your Park directory in case you
want to drop him a note.
Dianne Silsbee told me about a few more residents - Paul and Donna Schmidt's (318) dtr passed away after a battle with cancer. Former resident Kenway Mead, now in Oregon, has been quite ill - perhaps a mild stroke. Ken Michel, former resident, is having serious health problems with stomach pain - is out of the hospital but very weak and tired. And Jack Schmidt, now in Oregon, is also having health problems.
So remember all these people in your
thoughts.
